Fashion & Identity – Made in Italy

Vitamia / Fashion & Identity – Made in Italy

I am Lilli Spina, architect and fashion designer.

My story was born from the encounter between my Calabrian roots and a gaze turned toward the world.

I have always believed that dreams, memories, and impressions can become a personal and recognizable language.

Today, that language lives through my creations — garments and accessories that unite masterful tailoring, precious materials, evocative colors, and an aesthetic that seeks to transcend time.

My Story
I still remember the sound of scissors cutting fabric and the scent of freshly worked leather. I was eleven when I began sewing clothes and bags for myself. They were small, imperfect creations born more from curiosity than skill, yet already spoke about who I was.

I didn’t know then that I was choosing my path. Or maybe, deep down, I always knew.

I grew up in Reggio Calabria, a city of light and sea, where the history of Magna Graecia coexists with the vibrant colors of the Mediterranean. There, I learned that beauty is not an ornament but a breath that accompanies you. In the tailor’s shop, my task was just to “thread needles,” but during those days I listened, observed and most importantly imagined. Every gesture, quietly absorbed, became part of me.

Art and architecture taught me discipline; fashion, instead, taught me freedom.
That’s how I built my creative identity – a constant dialogue between structure and lightness, between rules and intuition, between deep roots and the desire to fly far.

The Italian city and the world around it was the cradle where Lilli Spina began her journey

My Philosophy
I have never thought of fashion as a race to chase trends.
To me, fashion is a language that preserves memory and transforms it into emotion. It is the story of who we are. Every garment is a fragment of life, a memory dressed in fabric and color and an opportunity to express one’s truth.

My Creations
When I opened my first atelier in 1997, it wasn’t just a workspace; it was an enchanted world. The walls were covered with sketches, moodboards, and fabric swatches and that’s where my dreams came to life.

My first collection, presented in Dubai, was my true debut. I still remember the emotion of that runway: a mix of fear and pride. From that experience came my showroom in the United Arab Emirates, and with it, a new awareness that my voice could speak a universal language.

Dresses from past collections designed and presented

In Dubai, Flowear bloomed, a collection celebrating femininity through the language of flowers: delicate petals, transparency, liquid colors. Soon after came Fata Morgana Mirage, inspired by the optical illusion that appears on the sea near my city — a tribute to the magic of Calabria, for which I received the Marisa Bellisario Award in Rome.
That moment felt less like a triumph and more like a circle closing between my homeland and the world.

Accessories became a return to my origins. With the Bag.Li collection, I revived the values of slowness, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Each bag, entirely handmade, is a piece of memory transformed into design.

The Bagli Collection is a return to her origins

And then came my Chameleon Bag. Its interchangeable flap is a simple yet revolutionary gesture: a continuous transformation, just like the woman who wears it. It is my statement that true elegance is the ability to change while remaining oneself.

My Vision
For me, fashion is the architecture of the soul, a mix of precision and poetry, structure and freedom.

Authentic success is born from the fragile yet powerful balance between roots and horizons: the love for one’s homeland and the courage to look beyond borders.

Today, my collections travel from the Mediterranean to New York, from Rome to Dubai.

Every garment and every accessory carries a message: Italian craftsmanship as a timeless value, fashion as a universal language, and the freedom to express and to evolve.

Through her shop and fashion shows, Lilli Spina presents her unique fashion philosophy to the world

This is my legacy: they are not just clothes, not just bags, but rather stories sewn with needle and thread, visions that speak of identity, memory, and dreams.
