From Corsetry to Creation: The Story of Gathiomiz

Vitamia / From Corsetry to Creation: The Story of Gathiomiz

Sometimes, to know where we are going, we must remember where we come from.

In the south of Spain, in Andalucía, lies Sevilla, a city known worldwide for its art, its light, and its ability to turn the everyday into something eternal. But for me, it is above all the city where my story was born, and the place that still guides every one of my designs.

One of its corners, Placentines Street, with its narrow streets and the constant murmur of the old city, witnessed a simple gesture that would change the course of a family. There, in 1959, the sisters Pilar and Carmen Gámiz opened the doors of Corsetería Gámiz. It was not just a shop: it was a refuge where craftsmanship intertwined with the trust of those who sought more than just a garment. Each stitch was a promise of care, each client a familiar face, each detail an act of fidelity to the craft.

“These are Pilar and Carmen Gámiz. In her arms, Pilar is holding my mother, Pilar Palacios. From that simple gesture came our way of understanding craftsmanship: caring, listening, and sewing with patience.”

I grew up surrounded by patterns, sketches, and fabrics. My mother, Pilar Palacios, carried on the legacy, and many of my most special moments were accompanied by unique designs that, even after years kept away, I can bring out again and see that they have not lost their magic: their timelessness.

From her mind and hands came dresses and ensembles that marked the most special moments of many children. These pieces did not merely dress; they held within them the laughter of a celebration, the emotion of a first communion, or the tenderness of a family photograph. Woven in cotton, linen, and delicate embroidery, every garment spoke of the love and patience with which it was created.

“Many designs were born from listening: a memory, a color, a story. From that conversation came a unique design, created exclusively for each client.”

With that same vision, my mother transformed the legacy into a children’s fashion brand, which for years dressed generations with unique designs full of care.

To honor our roots, the brand took the name Pilar and Carmen Gámiz. It was her way of paying tribute to the sisters who had started it all, and of reminding us that behind every stitch lies a story worth telling.

For many years, this children’s fashion brand was the reflection of our essence: to dress childhood with delicacy, with pieces that accompanied unique moments and were treasured as small family heirlooms. It was a brand that grew hand in hand with those who trusted us, keeping alive that artisanal spirit born in the corsetry of Placentines Street.

But every story that respects itself knows how to transform. In time, came the need to open a new chapter, to broaden horizons without abandoning what had been learned. Thus, GATHIOMIZ was born, not as a rupture but as a renewal: one that preserves our roots while inviting us to engage in dialogue with the present. We continue working with the same artisanal essence, yet we also incorporate new techniques that enrich each garment and allow us to evolve without losing what defines us.

“From paper to fabric, from dream to presence. What was once a sketch now becomes reality, a dialogue between memory, craftsmanship, and modern elegance.”

In this new stage, we want to keep offering something that, for me, has always been and will always remain essential in any design: timelessness. Because it is not about dressing for a trend, but about creating pieces that withstand the passage of time—both in their making and in their emotional value.

I would love to show you every detail, every process—how the sight of a landscape, the melody of a song, or the feeling of a fleeting instant can spark the creation of a special garment. There are so many things I long to share with you… will you join me?
